Pro-Stump Tree Service Inc. is celebrating nearly four decades of continuous family ownership in Central New Jersey, a milestone that underscores the company's enduring commitment to reliability and community service. Founded in 1987 by Glenn Donnelly, a retired New Jersey State Police trooper, the company has grown from a one-man operation with a pickup truck and a chainsaw to a full-service tree care business equipped with two grapple saw cranes, a 40-ton crane, bucket trucks, and three stump grinders.
Over the years, Pro-Stump has completed more than 5,000 jobs across Monmouth, Ocean, Burlington, and Mercer counties. The company's longevity is attributed to its foundational principles, as Glenn Donnelly explains: "I brought two things with me from the State Police. You show up when you say you will, and you never cut corners. Almost forty years later, most of our work still comes from a neighbor telling a neighbor."
The company's work has ranged from storm response at 2 a.m. to crane-assisted removals over houses and power lines. One notable incident in 2011 involved Glenn Donnelly climbing a tree to safely bring down a black bear in Central New Jersey after other responders declined the call. This dedication to handling challenging situations has solidified Pro-Stump's reputation as a dependable emergency service provider.
Today, Glenn's son, Cody Donnelly, serves as co-owner and shares day-to-day operations. Cody emphasizes that the company's core values remain unchanged: "Nothing about how we work is changing. The name on the truck is the same name on our mailbox. That is the standard we are held to."
Pro-Stump Tree Service continues to offer free estimates and 24-hour emergency service across all four counties. The company is licensed as a NJ Licensed Tree Expert (#200988), NJ Licensed Tree Care Operator (#767797), and NJ Home Improvement Contractor (#13VH07323700). It also employs an ISA Certified Arborist and carries $3 million in general liability insurance, ensuring clients receive professional and insured tree care.
As Pro-Stump marks this significant anniversary, its story serves as a testament to the power of family ownership, community trust, and unwavering work ethic in the tree care industry.
